Bel Cantanti Youth Conservatory


Sound of music

Announcing AUDITIONS for young singers ages 8-18 for: Youth Conservatory at Bel Cantanti Opera.

Classes will meet weekly on Wednesdays from 5pm-8pm at the Concrd-St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Bethesda starting on October 7, 2015. The semester will end at the beginning of February (this semester includes one make up day for inclement weather or other scheduling conflicts - TBD).

Three weekend classes from 2pm-5pm will also be part of the program. These additional workshop classes on Saturdays: October 24, November 21 and December 19 will also be offered (but not mandatory) in auditioning techniques, stage hair and makeup, stage design, stage movement and choreography).

What: BCO Youth Conservatory Final project: The Little Match Maker Girl, by Dirk Schattner, a musical based on Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale.
The lessons of the Conservatory will include rehearsals of the assigned music, staging rehearsals, elements of technical theater and stage design. Art lessons will be offered by artist Olga Shpitalna, director of the art studio Blue Giraffe.

Saturday Workshops Choreography and stage movement, Art of prop making, Artistic make up.

Youth Conservatory Performance: Song-play, musical The LIttle Match Maker Girl by Dirk Schattner.

Amahl and the Night Visitors. Students of the BCO Youth Conservatory will be offered a chance to sing in the ensembles of Schepherds in the Christmas opera Amahl and the Night Visitors, BCO mainstage production in December 2015.

Cost: $1300 per semester (due at beginning of semester, deadline: October 1)

Audition dates: August 29, September 12 (12-8pm) at CSAUM CHurch (5910 Goldsboro Rd., Bethesda, MD). Auditions scheduled by appointment. Email: auditions@belcantanti.com

Audition requirements: One monologue (1 minute maximum) and 2 song selections of your choice from musical theater, opera or Disney.

Who: Faculty includes: Dr. Katerina Souvorova (Artistic director of Bel Cantanti, Music director of the program and vocal coach), Dirk Schattner (stage directing, acting), Olga Shpitalna (Artistic Make Up, art lessons), Linda Jenks:(costuming). A few additional instructors for the semester and instructors for the Saturday workshops, master classes will be announced later.
